Garnaut Prize

Each year the Crawford School of Public Policy, College of Law, Governance and Development may offer a prize known as the Garnaut Prize.

Overview

The objective of the prize is to recognise outstanding achievement in the Master of Climate Change. 

The value of the prize awarded is $500.

The prize will be on offer each semester.

The prize will be on offer from 2025 to 2027 unless otherwise advised.

Funding for this prize has been provided by the Crawford School of Public Policy.

This prize is named for Ross Garnaut AC, an eminent economist whose career has been built around the analysis of and practice of policy connected to development, economic policy and international relations in Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

Prof Garnaut was Head of the Economics Department and Division of the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at the ANU for over a decade from 1989. He played leading roles from the mid-seventies until 2009 in building the Australian ¾«¶«´«Ã½app University’s capacity in research and graduate education on Southeast Asia, China and South Asia. He has led many high-level Government Reviews and Commissions, including the preparation of the Report to the Australian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister ‘Australia and the Northeast Asian Ascendency’ (1989); the Review of the Wool Industry (1993); the Review of Commonwealth-State Funding (2002); and the Garnaut Climate Change Review (2008).
