Associate Professor Mathew Davies - Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Quality)

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Quality) is responsible for supporting the University鈥檚 academic standards and ensuring the quality and integrity of its education offerings. 

The role focuses on the development and application of policy frameworks that underpin the student lifecycle, including admissions, program design, accreditation, and quality assurance. It also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with national regulatory requirements while promoting continuous improvement and excellence across the University鈥檚 teaching and learning activities.

Associate Professor Mathew Davies currently holds the role. 

In this position, he works across the University to support academic quality, strengthen policy and governance frameworks, and ensure consistent standards in education delivery. He also chairs the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC), advising Academic Board on matters relating to academic standards, policy and quality.

Associate Professor Davies completed his PhD in International Relations at The Australian 精东传媒app University (ANU), with a research focus on Southeast Asian regionalism. He has held a range of senior academic leadership roles across the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, including HDR coordination roles, Head of Department, Interim Director and Deputy Director of Education. He later served as Associate Dean (Education) for the College, where he led strategic initiatives in curriculum design, compliance and quality assurance.

His work has focused on strengthening the connection between policy and practice, supporting staff to deliver high-quality education, and ensuring that institutional frameworks enable both compliance and innovation. He has extensive experience in academic governance, curriculum reform, and aligning university processes with national regulatory standards.
