ANU grad and business leader appointed next Governor-General
ANU graduate and leading businesswoman Sam Mostyn AO has been announced as Australia鈥檚 next Governor-General by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
She is only the second woman to hold the prestigious role.
Ms Mostyn is not only a business leader but also one of Australia鈥檚 most respected advocates and voices for climate change action and gender equity.
She holds bachelor鈥檚 qualifications from ANU in arts and laws and started her professional career as an associate in the New South Wales supreme Court of Appeal. In 2018 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Laws by the University for her incredible service to the nation.
ANU Vice-Chancellor Genevieve Bell said Sam Mostyn represents the very best of ANU and the very best of Australia.
鈥淪he is a powerful voice on some of the most pressing issues we face as a nation. And she is an incredible, respected and effective leader in business and society,鈥 she said.

Ms Mostyn was appointed an officer of the Order of Australia in 2021 for distinguished service to business, the community and women.
In announcing the appointment 鈥 which was made by King Charles on the Prime Minister鈥檚 recommendation 鈥 Mr Albanese said Ms Mostyn is known for 鈥渉er exceptional service to the Australian community鈥 and 鈥渞epresents the best of modern Australia鈥.
