Indigenous Alumni

The ANU Indigenous Alumni Network was proudly founded by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander alumni from the 1980s and early 1990s. Born from a shared vision of connection, support, and celebration, the Network exists to build a community where Indigenous voices are heard, achievements are recognised, and meaningful relationships thrive - both within ANU and beyond.

Our Inaugural Patrons

  • Aunty Dr Matilda House-Williams, respected Ngambri, Ngunnawal and Wiradyuri Elder, who opened the Tjabal Centre in 1989.
  • Professor Anne Martin, current Director of the Tjabal Centre and Yuin woman from La Perouse, south-east of Sydney.
  • Emeritus Professor Isabel McBryde, Australian archaeologist whose leadership was instrumental in enrolling Indigenous students and establishing the Tjabal Centre.
  • Professor Marcia Langton, the first Indigenous Honours graduate in Anthropology at ANU and a national leader in Indigenous affairs.
